GUJRAT: The Kharian Cantonment Board has launched a drive to paint city walls by engaging students, including of the University of Gujrat and the Government College University, Lahore.

At least 39 students of the Fine Art Departments of both institutions participated in the initial exercise and painted the wall of the Cantt Public School.

The best work was awarded shields and cash prizes.

The residents of the cantonment appreciated the idea as it promoted street art besides improving their surroundings. People also demanded that the same be replicated in other parts of the Cantonment, which, according to the management, will be done gradually.

In the next phase, the walls of water filtration plants and tube wells would be painted as the students of some other educational institutions would participate in the second phase.

Moreover, the administration of the board has engaged local women in the consultation process to improve the civic amenities and service delivery.

At least three dozen women from the residential localities attended the first-ever such interactive session with the officials of the board last week and shared their views to improve the facilities. ned suspended for hours.
