LAKKI MARWAT: The police on Wednesday arrested two proclaimed offenders, one of them in injured condition, after an encounter in Landi Jalandher area of Bannu district.

An official said a Domel police station party reached the rural locality on information about presence of wanted men there. “The outlaws opened fire on cops when they were laying a siege around their hideout. The cops also took positions and returned the fire,” the official said.

District police chief Imran Shahid, who was also in the area to monitor security for polio teams, also reached the place along with reinforcements, the official said, adding after exchange of fire, the cops launched a search and captured two outlaws identified as Nekobar and Nazar Shah, who were wanted in murder and attempted murder cases. The official said Nekobar, who was injured in the firing, was taken to the Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital, and the other PO was shifted to the police station.

The official said the police seized three shotguns, two pistols and ammunition from the arrested men. A case was registered against them. After the gunfight with proclaimed offenders, the police also launched a search operation in the area and arrested five suspects, claimed the official.
