HARIPUR: Police claimed to have arrested three persons including a car driver for harassing a young woman here on Thursday.

City police quoted a woman in her twenties as saying that she booked a motorcar for Islamabad and was on the way when on GT Road, the driver stopped the car and two unidentified persons got on the vehicle despite her objection.

She said that after covering a small distance, both the men and driver stopped the car and started harassing her sexually. They also made her footage and left her injured when she attempted to resist, she added.

The woman said that the men dropped her back near her home the same evening. She lodged a complaint with police. Police arrested Zakariya, Shafiq Shah and Usman Khalid and registered FIR against them under sections 354, 342 and 506 of Pakistan Panel Code.

KILLED: A jail warder was killed while a local journalist was injured critically in two separate incidents here, police said on Thursday.

Sera-i-Saleh police said that Malik Awais was serving prison department as warder and was posted in Central Jail Haripur. On Thursday morning, he left home to join duty in Haripur jail when he was crossing GT Road near Changi Bandi stop, a recklessly driven motorcar knocked him down. The injured official was removed to Haripur Trauma Centre but he could not survive and succumbed to head injury.

Meanwhile, a local journalist was critically injured when his brother allegedly opened firing on him over some family dispute in Muhallah Noor Colony.

Police quoted injured journalist Tauqir Hussain as saying that he and his elder brother Munir Hussain had altercation and he opened firing on him with 30 bore pistol, injuring him critically.

The injured was shifted to Haripur Trauma Centre but due to lack of facilities, he was shifted to Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad where his surgery was carried out. Doctors said that his condition was critical as he suffered two bullet shots in the ribs. Police arrested the accused.
