KARACHI: Seven members of a family including four women suffered burn wounds in an explosion occurred on the sixth floor of a building in Chakiwara on Saturday, police said.

Area SHO Abdul Ghaffar Shah said that the family had gone asleep on Friday night without turning off the stove and as a result the gas filled their apartment. As Sobia, 22, woke up at around 8:30am and lit the match to prepare tea for breakfast, an explosion took place not only injuring her, but six other family members.

He said the condition of Sobia was critical as she suffered up to 80 per cent burns.

Jamila Shahzad, Azmina, 16, Hunain, 17, Hasnain, 20, Shoaib, 25, and Farhat, 25, received burn wounds up to nine per cent.

They were shifted to the Burns Centre of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.
