TOBA TEK SINGH: Five members of a family drowned in Trimmu-Head Sindhnai canal when their van fell into it at Chak 1 JB Kagh near Shorkot Cantonment on Thursday.

Rescue 1122 said seven family members were on their way from Harappa to Layyah by a van. Near cantonment on Shorkot City road, the driver lost control over the vehicle while overtaking a car and the van plunges into the canal. Two of them - Muhammad Aslam (50) and Munir Ahmad (30) - were rescued while Aslam’s daughter Fizza Bibi (18), Asma Ibrar (33), her son Muhammad Ayan (8) and her two daughters Hira Bibi (7) and Meerab (6) drowned.

Police said two of them were recovered dead while three died in Shorkot THQ hospital.
