HARIPUR: University of Haripur Vice-Chancellor Prof Anwar Gillani has said an assistant professor has been terminated after he was found guilty of harassment, and another teacher has been suspended pending an inquiry against him.
He disclosed this while addressing the participants of a farewell party organised in his honour by the university’s faculty and administrative staff here on Wednesday. His three-year contract is to expire on March 24.
Prof Gillani said the university had referred the two harassment complaints to the relevant committee, and its findings were put before the syndicate’s meeting held the other day.
The syndicate, he said, decided to terminate assistant professor Dr Matiullah of department of physics, while another teacher, assistant professor Dr Amjad Khan of department of public health and nutrition, was suspended as an inquiry against him was still underway.
District police officer Kashif Aftab Abbasi had written to the varsity administration seeking the details harassment cases reported during last three years and the action taken against the harassers.
Dr Gilani said the university had zero tolerance for such cases, adding he faced criticism for not taking immediate action, but was bound to follow the university’s rules and regulations that required a thorough inquiry.
