KOHAT: District development advisory committee chairman Ziaullah Bangash on Friday said the construction work on the Women and Children Hospital, which has been suspended since 2018, would resume soon and would be completed by 2023.

He was speaking during a meeting with local body members and activists of welfare organisations.

Gumbat tehsil chairman-elect Shahid Iqbal, Lachi tehsil chairman Mohammad Ehsan, Kohat Qaumi Tehreek chairman Ameer Khan Afridi, Rasheed Paracha of Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industry and others were in attendance.

The participants also demanded setting up of cottage industry and training centres for women, construction of small dams and wells in Lachi to overcome water shortage, establishment of two workshops for repair of power transformers and provision of MRI and CT Scan at the KDA Hospital.

PROTEST: Hundreds of residents of Sheikhan village on Friday blocked the Kohat-Rawalpindi Road in front of the deputy commissioner’s office against the arrest of former deputy opposition leader in the district council Mr Hamid under 3MPO for protesting the frequent incidents of firing by the residents of neighbouring Sheraki village of Darra Adamkhel on them over a land dispute.

The protesters demanded demarcation of the disputed mountain, which divides Kohat and Darra Adamkhel. The road remained blocked for three hours.

An elder, Ghalib Shah said the firing on their village by the inhabitants of Sheraki village had killed scores of his goats and several houses were damaged.

The protesters said according to the revenue record the mountain at Peridal point on the Kohat side was their property, but the Sheraki tribesmen claimed ownership of the whole mountain, even its portion on the Kohat side.

The protesters said a few days ago the Sheraki tribesmen climbed up the mountain and started firing on the Sheikhan village.
