Why mother tongues matter
This is regarding the cover article “Why mother tongues matter” by Rizwana Naqvi (YW, February 19).
Learning in one’s own language is far better and easier than in any other language. Sadly, even people with higher educational background do not understand this and they emphasise that their children learn English or any other internationally spoken language.
It is sad to see that people proudly learn international languages, but feel ashamed to use their own language. They should remember that a language is a source or a medium of communication, not a parameter of checking the knowledge of anyone. Mother tongue should be promoted everywhere so that languages do not perish.

Change negativity to positivity
This is with reference to the article “Change negativity to positivity” by Muhammad Saleem (YW, February 12). After reading the article, I realised that we live in a society where we face different types of people every day. Some criticise and some support; to live a healthy and positive life, we must choose to live with people who support and encourage us.
Apart from that, negative thoughts are also the culprits behind one’s downfall, since they demotivate and depress us. I appreciate the writer for writing on a very motivational topic.

Wellness during winter
This is with reference to the article “Wellness during winter” by M Qudrat-e- Khuda (YW, February 12). The writer had rightly pointed out that many of us feel discomfort during winter season. We all know, with winter, comes flu, cold and cough.
We must turn to natural remedies to get rid of them before they take a toll on our whole family. All the suggestions given in the article were worth noticing and applying in our daily life to lead a healthy life.

Arrogant Maria
This is with reference to the story “Arrogant Maria” by Kaneez Fatima (YW February 12). The story taught me a great lesson that when we bully someone, an apology can never erase the marks which we leave on their self-esteem. Mocking someone is very easy and you don’t know how much you hurt others with your words, but once you become a victim of others’ criticism or mockery, only then you realise the pain caused by it.
So kids, always make sure you don’t hurt someone.
