TOBA TEK SINGH: Dozens of policemen of Gojra police stations arrested 46 people from different districts of Punjab for gambling and putting their fighter dogs in a dogfight tournament in Gojra Chak 415 JB on Sunday evening.

According to the FIR registered by Gojra Sadar police under section 6-C of the Pakistan Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1990 and section 5 of the Prevention of the Gambling Act 1977, complainant sub-inspector Muhammad Ashraf said when a police party raided the tournament venue, scores of people were present in the ground.

More policemen were called out, however, organisers Boota and Khurram of the same village managed to escape. The police arrested 46 of them. Thousands of rupees used in gambling and mobile phone sets were recovered from their custody.

The arrested people included Sajid and Ameer Ali, of Okara; Ibrar and Muhammad Yar, of Pakpattan; Ashraf, of Faisalabad; Shafiq, of Sheikhupura; Israr, of Sadiqabad; Imran, of Chakwal, and Ijaz of Layyah. Twelve cars and vans, eight dogs and a number of motorcycles were also seized.
