PESHAWAR: Provincial Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash has said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is committed to resolving the problems of universities.

Addressing the convocation of University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, here as chief guest, he said that resources were being utilised to provide facilities to teachers and students. He added that the problems faced by the universities would be resolved soon.

The convocation was held here at University of Peshawar to commemorate the academic accomplishments of students of engineering and technology during the academic sessions of 2018-19 and 2019-20.

The minister conferred degrees on graduating students of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. A total of 960 graduates were awarded degrees in engineering and non-engineering programmes including 900 BSc degrees, 18 PhD degrees and 48 students were awarded MSc degrees.

960 graduates get degrees at UET convocation

At the convocation, 48 gold medals were conferred on the graduates of undergraduate programmes for clinching top positions. A local industry also awarded two cash prizes to the toppers of electrical engineering department of UET, Sardar Umar Khitab and Syed Luqman Shah.

Addressing the ceremony, Kamran Bangash said that government was committed to resolving the problems of universities. He said that resources were being utilised to provide facilities to teachers and students. He added that problems faced by the universities would be resolved soon.

He said that government released a grant of Rs40 million to UET to resolve its financial issues. He congratulated the graduates and urged them to work hard for building the nation.

The minister said that government approved construction of 365 kilometres long Dera Ismail Khan-Peshawar Motorway and 81 kilometres Swat Motorway to promote trade, industrialisation and economic activities. He said that the two projects would serve as trade corridors and would provide job opportunities to young engineers.

Vice-chancellor Prof Iftikhar Hussain congratulated the graduates and their parents and said that future of the country was dependent on education of young generation.

He said that UET Peshawar had eight centres of excellence. He said that almost 300 faculty research projects were awarded to UET. He added that UET adopted outcome-based education (OBE) system.

The graduates and their parents celebrated their success with their teachers and paid tribute of their dedication at the convocation.
