RAHIM YAR KHAN: Five people were killed when a car fell into a canal near Kot Samaba, some 25km from here, on Monday night.

Police said the Khanpur-bound car fell into Abbasin Canal near Pull Chak 86-P after the car driver took the dangerous unmatelled canal bank since the Shahi Road was blocked by heavily-loaded sugarcane trolleys.

Rescue 1122 personnel reached the spot and lifted the car with the help of a crane.

Rescuers recovered bodies of two women, as many children and a man and shifted them to the Shaikh Zayed Medical College Hospital.

Some relatives of the deceased told a Rescue official that there were eight people on board the car. Sources said search for the missing was on with the help of divers. The deceased family belonged to Jetha Bhutta Bazar, Khapur.
