ISLAMABAD: The body of a man who had been shot dead was discovered in the capital, police said on Monday.
They said the victim was a driver by profession and was shot at the back of his neck. The suspects were able to escape with his vehicle, the police said, adding that the victim’s body was spotted by a passerby in Shahpur.
After getting information, police reached the spot and shifted the body to the hospital for identification and legal procedure.
Police said the deceased had been taking passengers from Daewoo Bus Terminal to their respective destinations for the past 10 years, adding that preliminary investigation revealed that two persons who had booked his taxi murdered him.
A case was registered with Bhara Kahu police station under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against both suspects and investigation was being carried out.
Meanwhile, a policeman and an alleged robber were injured during an encounter.
According to police, a gang of three robbers was involved in snatching belongings of a man in Dhoke Kashmirian. In the meantime a police patrolling team reached there and the robbers started firing at the police personnel, as a result of which one of the officials sustained a bullet injury.
The police also retaliated and later arrested an injured robber, the spokesman said, adding that a case was registered with Ramna police station against the robbers under 7-Anti Terrorism Act (ATA) along with PPCs 392, 324, 353, 186, and 427 and the Punjab Arms Ordinance, police said.
According to the first information report (FIR), four policemen were patrolling in the area on motorcycles and when they reached G-11 signal, they spotted three robbers looting a passerby. The robbers started firing at the police when they approached them and as a result SI Akhtar Zaman suffered a bullet injury on his hand, it added.
One of the robbers sustained an injury and a Honda 125 that belonged to the robbers caught fire during the encounter.
The man who was robbed was identified as Shafqat Hayat. The robbers tried to snatch Rs3,500 from him.
The other two robbers managed to escape from the spot, it added.
