ISLAMABAD: A woman killed her three children and then attempted suicide in the rural area of the capital on Thursday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Ayan, 7, Muskan, 4, and Noor, 3.

The incident took place in a house located in Farash Town where families of six brothers, natives of Karak, and their mother lived. The wife of one of the brothers residing in the upper portion of the house slit the throats of her three children with a knife and then attempted suicide using the same knife.

After being informed, the police reached the house and found the bodies of the three minors.

Their mother was also found lying on the floor.

Later, the injured and the bodies were shifted to a hospital.

Sub-divisional Police Officer Shahzad Town Chaudhry Abid Hussain told Dawn that the woman was operated upon and kept in the hospital as her condition was critical.

After an autopsy, the bodies of the children were handed over to the family, he added.

The woman’s husband is a gardener at a hospital and a HIV positive patient, he said. Preliminary police investigation showed that the couple had a quarrel in the morning before the man left for work.
