KHYBER: The law-enforcement personnel arrested over 173 suspected persons and recovered a big quantity of drugs, arms and ammunition during search operations in Jamrud here on Thursday.

Giving details of the joint gains made by the security forces and Khyber police, district police officer Mohammad Imran told mediapersons at the Shah Kas Police Training Centre that the search and strike operations were conducted in different parts of Shah Kas, located adjacent to Hayatabad residential township of Peshawar, in order to ensure a peaceful environmentduring the fasting month of Ramazan.

He said that as many as 173 suspected persons, including one proclaimed offender, were arrested during the coordinated operations in which they also had the assistance of the bomb disposal squad and lady constables.

“In total, around 380 law-enforcement personnel took part in the joint operations which continued for several hours. A number of suspected houses and drug dens were raided during these operations,” he said.

Mr Imran said that the seized arms and ammunition included 13 Kalashnikov, 20 pistols, six rifles, one repeater, 46 magazinesand thousands of cartridges. The Khyber police chief said that 13 kilogrammes of ice, 500 grams of charas, eight motorcycles, two cars and two auto-rickshaws were also seized during the joint operations.
