KARACHI: The chief security officer of Karachi Zoological Gardens was on Friday placed under suspension and an inquiry was ordered into reports of “vulgar and objectionable activities” at one of the major recreational places in the city, mostly visited by families with children.

A public outcry triggered the social media after a visitor reportedly filmed a young couple indulging in morally and socially unacceptable activities at the zoo.

Officials said that Administrator Murtaza Wahab took strict notice of the reports that aired on different TV channels and social media regarding objectionable activities, mainly by couples at the zoo, which is under the administrative control of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.

They said that the administrator ordered the KMC Senior Director Mansoor Qazi to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and submit a detail report within a week.

The administrator warned of strict action if any zoo employee was found facilitating unscrupulous elements.

He said that the zoo was mainly visited by families with children and no immoral and objectionable activities would be tolerated.

He also ordered to take strict security measures to ensure better environment for the visitors at the zoo.
