PESHAWAR: A meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Standing Committee on Population Welfare Department was held here on Friday, which was chaired by its chairperson Nighat Yasmin Orakzai.

MPAs Madiha Nisar, Baseerat Khan, Humaira Khatoon, Sobia Shahid, Shahida Waheed, Naeema Kishwar, Shagufta Malik, Rehana Ismail, Asia Saleh Khattak and Faisal Zaman, director general population welfare and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

The committee members discussed performance of the department and sought briefing on the performance of 4,000 trained clerics for creation of awareness on family planning.

Speaking on the occasion, the committee chairperson stressed the need for granting equal incentives and opportunities of promotion to the women employees.

She expressed her reservations about the absence of the chairperson of the women commission from the meeting and asked her to ensure presence in next meeting of the committee.

She also directed the officials of provincial assembly to invite the Peshawar mayor to the meeting, likely to be held on May 9.
