PESHAWAR: The Central Ruet Hilal Committee on Saturday announced the sighting of Ramazan moon in different parts of the country and said the holy month will begin all across the country from Sunday (today).

Committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad made the announcement following its meeting which took place at the Aquaf office located on Charsadda Road.

Maulana Azad said the committee had received several witnesses of moon sighting from different parts of the country. “The committee has received moon-sighting witnesses from Lahore, Narowal, Islamabad, Sialkot, Pakpattan, Kasur, Kharian, Muzaffargarh and Karak,” he said.

The chairman said a large number of people had sighted the Ramazan moon and therefore the first fast will fall all over the country on Sunday (today). He said the holy month is starting all over the country the same day, thus making it heading in the direction of national unity.

Separately, the unofficial moon-sighting committee headed by Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai met at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan. Mufti Popalzai told the media that though the sky was overcast in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera and Charsadda, they had received about 90 witnesses of moon sighting from several other districts and in light of these sightings they were announcing the first fast from Sunday (today).
