LAHORE: A young son of a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MPA Abida Raja reportedly attempted suicide by shooting himself at a local hotel on Wednesday.

Identified as Mohammad Sami, the young man got a bullet injury and was rushed to hospital where he was said to be stable.

Surprisingly, he was shifted with a bullet injury to his leg while the police declared it an attempt to commit suicide saying the young man was suffering from some psychological issues and mental stress.

A senior police officer said Sami fired himself with a pistol of his friend who was a doctor by profession.

The doctor was not authorised to hand over his pistol to his friend and the police were also nominating him in the case.

“Sami is under treatment and he is stable,” the official said adding that the forensic and police experts have isolated the crime scene and collected evidence from the spot for analysis.

The police registered a case against the suspect on the complaint of Civil Lines sub-inspector Afzal.

According to the first information report, Sami told the police that he shot himself in his leg, citing no reason for the crime he committed.

To a question, the police official said the family was reluctant to share the details of the factors that prompted the young man to attempt suicide. Further investigation is under way.
