LAHORE: The two main opposition parties on Thursday celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision against the National Assembly deputy speaker’s ruling on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan and decided to observe Friday (today) as the Victory of Democracy and Ouster of the Selected Day.

The PML-N and PPP provincial lawmakers celebrated the apex court’s verdict to restore the National Assembly at a hotel where they had been residing for a week, waiting to take part in the election of the Punjab chief minister.

A good number of PML-N MPAs danced in excitement and termed the verdict a victory for democracy. The party workers came out on the roads in different parts of the city where they danced and distributed sweets.

PPP Punjab president Raja Pervaiz Ashraf directed all district and tehsil bodies of the party to make preparations for the day and hold Iftar parties for the poor.

Lauding the Supreme Court verdict, general secretary of the party Syed Hassan Murtaza said the decision buried the doctrine of necessity and strengthened the Constitution. He gave credit to the joint struggle of the opposition parties that made accountability of the violation of the Constitution possible.

PPP information secretary Shehzad Saeed Cheema said the masses should offer thanksgiving prayers on Friday on the apex court’s verdict. He said that the ‘selected’ group would now be held accountable in the National Assembly.
