LAHORE: Police claimed on Thursday to have arrested a robber after he was injured in a ‘shootout’ while many others looted two houses and several citizens in various parts of the city on Thursday.

In Baghbanpura, the police claimed to have arrested a criminal involved in nearly 35 cases lodged against him in different police stations of the city.

Cantt Division SP Eesa Sukhera said the police had stopped two suspects at a picket near Mahmood Booti on Bund Road. He said they ignored the signal and fled.

As police chased them, they opened fire which was retaliated. During an encounter, a robber received a bullet fired by his own accomplice, the SP said adding the other fled.

The police took into custody the injured suspect identified as Fayyaz who was wanted in 35 cases.

In Nawab Town area, armed men barged into the house of Javed, held his family hostage and escaped after looting cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth over Rs600,000.

Some armed men looted Rs400,000, jewellery and other valuables from the house of Maqool in Liaqatabad area and managed their escape.

Two armed men held up a citizen Hassan in Harbanspura and deprived him of cash, a mobile phone and other valuables worth Rs270,000,

The robbers deprived Athar Waqas of valuables and cash worth Rs100,000 in Sanda while two armed men snatched from Munir a mobile phone and cash worth over Rs48,000 in Shadman.
