PESHAWAR: The members of the lawyers’ community here on Friday held a march on the Sher Shah Suri Road in support of the Supreme Court verdict, which restored the National Assembly and declared the ruling by its deputy speaker as unconstitutional.
The lawyers hoped that the judiciary would continue with such historical judgements.
The procession was led by senior lawyers, including former president of Supreme Court Bar Association Abdul Lateef Afridi, former president of Peshawar High Court Bar Association Essa Khan, Mian Fazal Wahab, Lajbar Khan and others.
The lawyers were holding placards inscribed with pro-judiciary slogans.
They marched on the high court premises and the nearby Sher Shah Suri Road.
Earlier, the lawyers held a general body meeting, where the speakers hailed the judgment, stating that it was a good sign that the judiciary had not acted on the infamous ‘doctrine of necessity’ and had strictly confined itself to the Constitution of Pakistan.
They said that the ruling given by the deputy speaker of the National Assembly rejecting the no-confidence motion against the prime minister was a blatant violation of the Constitution.
They stated that the verdict would help restore the rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution in the country.
