SWABI: Mohammad Iqbal, father of Mashal Khan, who was lynched by an angry mob on the premises of the Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, on April 13, 2017, has said the bereaved family has attached all its expectations to the Supreme Court.

Talking to mediapersons on Wednesday on the death anniversary of his son, he said it was his utmost desire that such incidents did not occur in universities, where people sent their children for acquiring education to play their role in the country’s progress. Quran Khwani was held at the student’s grave in Zaida village.

Mr Iqbal said his family had been begging for justice since April 2017. It is to be mentioned here that Mashal was studying in the journalism department at Abdul Wali Khan University.

SHOT DEAD: Unidentified assailants shot dead a man and injured his son in Chota Lahor on Wednesday.

Chota Lahor city police station officials said the incident occurred in Nabi village.

Mohammad Zahir, a brother of deceased, Nisar Ali, told the police that the victim along with a son, Mohammad Ali, had left his house last night, but did not return. He said the next morning the family was informed that hisbody was lying in fields along with his injured son.

Mr Zahir told the police they had no enmity with anyone.

The police registered an FIR and started investigations.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a factory in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate on Wednesday, which was later put out by a Rescue 1122 team. A rescue official said the firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the factory.

A factory official said cause of the fire was not known.

SHEHBAZ’S ELECTION AS PM CELEBRATED: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz workers celebrated election of Shehbaz Sharif as Prime Minister on Tuesday night.

The PML-N workers from across the district gathered at the Karnal Sher Khan Chowk after evening prayers.

Addressing the gathering, former MPA Babar Salim said those who were flagrantly violating the country’s Constitution were shown the door. “Imran Khan used all tactics to remain in power, but failed,” he added.
