SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: The Angoor Adda border crossing with Afghanistan reopened here on Tuesday after remaining shut for about a week.

The Afghan Taliban had closed the border point on Afghan side by erecting a brick wall after Pakistani authorities closed the border following a terrorist attack in which an army major and a solider were martyred a few days ago.

Assistant commissioner, Wana, Bashir told Dawn that they had reopened the border crossing for goods transport. He said that opening of the border crossing point would hugely benefit the local traders.

Meanwhile, the locals expressed their happiness over the reopening of the border crossing.

A Pakistan Army major and a soldier were martyred when the security forces came under attack near the Angoor Adda gate.

Three terrorists were also killed when the security forces retaliated the attack.

The closure of the border had brought the trade activities between the two countries as well people’s travel to a standstill.

The assistant commissioner said that the border was reopened for those crossing it on foot.

However, there was no word on the resumption of internet services in the area.

Imran Mukhlis, an activist of Pakistan Peoples Party, questioned the suspension of cellular services in the area.
