ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday appointed Intelligence Bureau Academy commandant Fuad Asadullah Khan as acting director general of Intelligence Bureau (IB).

According to the notification issued by the Establishment Division, Khan, a BS-21 officer of IB, “is assigned current charge of the post of Director General Intelligence Bureau during the leave of Director General Dr Mohammad Suleman or till the posting of regular DG.

Dr Suleman proceeded to three months leave a day before the no confidence motion was adopted.

Initially, a summary was moved for the appointment of Abdul Khalique Sheikh as acting DG IB.

However, a sources said that Sheikh, a Lahore-based officer of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), was reluctant to move to Islamabad to assume current charge of the office of teh bureau DG.

Khan, on the other hand, was the senior most officer of the IB, he is also holding the portfolio of President Intelligence Bureau Employees Cooperative Housing Society (IBECHS).

He is also a respondent in the petition pending before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the recent election of the housing society.
