LAHORE has witnessed an increase in the number of motor vehicles in a short period of time which has created a major hurdle in easy mobility, especially during peak hours. Gulberg and its suburbs are the zones of major economic activities, and, hence, the magnitude of traffic has increased immensely in these areas.
A modern flyover and underpass are already constructed at Kalma Chowk, and the signal-free main boulevard is effectively sharing the traffic load, but there is a lot more that needs to be done.
The need of the hour is infrastructure reforms to improve the traffic flow. Long queues of cars with running engines damage the environment. Extension and remodelling of roads will help counter the traffic issues for easy mobility.
Planned infrastructural reforms are necessary for the development of a country. The government needs to take proactive swift actions to control traffic. It will not only ensure easy mobility, but will also curb noise and air pollution which will be a dynamic step towards green and breathable Lahore.
