KOHAT: The Water Supply and Sanitation Company (WSSC), Kohat, on Monday received machinery worth over Rs50 million.

WSSC deputy general manager, human resource, Arif Afeef told reporters that the new equipment would help maintain cleanliness in the city.

He said the company had received 24 garbage vehicles, two tractors, three mechanical sweepers, and one suction-cum-jetting machine. He said the company was also hiring 50 drivers and 65 sweepers.

Mr Afeef requested the people to throw garbage in the dust bins to keep the city clean. He said the existing WSSC vehicles used to lift 13 tonnes of garbage daily, which would be increased to 21 tonnes with the help of new vehicles.

He said garbage was being dumped at landfill sites in Muhammzdai and Afghan refugee camp No 3.

DRUG PEDDLERS HELD: The Riaz Shaheed police on Monday arrested four drug peddlers from Togh Payan, Sheikhan and Merozai areas and seized contraband and arms from them.

SHO Jamshed Ali heading a team raided the hideouts of the peddlers. The police also seized over five kilogrammes of hashish, two pistols and cartridges from them.

Meanwhile, the police on Monday removed pushcarts, illegal bus stands and parking lots during an action in different bazaars to provide ease to Eid shoppers. Also, ASP Saddar circle Usma Ameen Cheema has instructed the wardens and ticketing officers to keep smooth flow of traffic in the busy areas.

ATTACKS CONDEMNED: The Muttahida Ulema Council, Kohat division, has condemned the alleged insults of clerics and seminaries at the public meetings being organised by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, and asked the administration to immediately stop such ‘immoral’ acts for ensuring peace and harmony in the society.

In a letter written to the divisional commissioner and the deputy commissioner, Kohat, the council threatened that the students and caretakers of seminaries would be justified to take law into their own hands if utterances of derogatory remarks against them were not stopped forthwith.

It also asked the Supreme Court to take cognisance of the matter.

The council said attacks on mosques in Timergara, Attock and a seminary in Peshawar were causing rage and unrest among Ulema and students of medressahs.
