RAWALPINDI: The Highway Department has started rehabilitating and constructing different roads in Murree, which will be completed by Eidul Fitr.
According to details, during last visit to Murree, Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal had identified three-kilometer-long road from Lower Topa to Jhika Stree, which need repair and maintenance.
He also directed construction of a new seven-kilometer-long road from Kuldana to The Mall and from Sunny Bank to General Post Office Chowk.
The commissioner said that for a recreational place like Murree, restoration and repair work of roads was the most important so that tourists may not face any difficulty. In this regard, he said that rehabilitation of about 40-km-long main link roads of Murree had been started for which an amount of Rs500 million had been allocated.
Besides,he said, carpeting, guard railing repairs and lane marking would also be done.
He directed that traffic signs should be installed on both sides of the roads in order to guide the tourists so that accidents could be avoided.
He said that apart from Eid days, tourists would be more inclined towards Murree due to summer.
Therefore, he said, the repair and maintenance work of the roads should be completed as soon as possible.
“After the completion, these roads will be a convenience not only for the tourists but also for the locals,” he said.
In a separate meeting, Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal was apprised of the steps taken against hoarders and profiteers.
He was informed that during the last month, a total of 30,931 inspections were conducted in Rawalpindi during which Rs4 million fines were imposed, 194 buildings sealed, 56 FIRs registered and 146 shopkeepers arrested.
