MUZAFFARGARH: In order to curb the rising crime rate in south Punjab, Operation Al-Badr has been launched to hunt 10,000 criminals.

Up to 210 police station officials have been mobilised to take action against 4,000 criminals in the Multan region, 3,500 in Bahawalpur and 2,500 people in Dera Ghazi Khan.

South Punjab Additional Inspector General of Police Dr Ehsan Sadiq said that to improve law and order in south Punjab, the department has worked day and night to prepare a list of 10,000 criminals, repeat-offenders in prisons, repeat offenders, as well as members of gangs involved in organized crime.

He said strict action will be taken against the guarantors of criminals and those who protect such people.

The police have also compiled a list of 400 active gangs. The operation Al-Badr includes the special branch and CIA staff.

Mr Sadiq said that the police have been instructed to work on modern lines instead of traditional methods so that the law and order situation can be significantly improved soon.

He said the criminals would be brought to justice and for the success of the operation, the police liaison and information system of all the districts of south Punjab have also been made effective.
