SAHIWAL: The district police officer on Tuesday suspended Chichawatni Saddar station house officer (SHO) for using derogatory language against PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz on social media.

The DPO has appointed Chichawatni Saddar Circle deputy superintendent of police (DSP) as inquiry officer to investigate the matter and submit a report within three weeks.

A handout says that being a member of a disciplined force, the “comments” given by the SHO sub-inspector A D Shaheen are unwanted.

Shaheen uploaded derogatory and abusive comments on his Facebook account against PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz on Monday.

Local PML-N leaders condemned the SHO’s comments, complaining that how an on-duty police official could use abusive language against the parliamentarian of a leading political party.

Taking notice of his subordinate’s remarks, the DPO suspended Shaheen from service under the Government Servants Efficiency and Discipline Rules 1973, asking him to report to the Police Lines, Sahiwal, with immediate effect.

The suspension order says the SHO was suspended for his inefficiency, irresponsible attitude and negligence in the discharge of his duty.
