TOBA TEK SINGH: A Punjab Highways Patrolling Police (PHPP) assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was killed on Friday in a crossfire with robbers, in which two alleged criminals, stated to be brothers, were also killed and another was injured at Faisalabad’s Madina Town locality.

Police sources said three armed robbers forced their entry into the two-storey house of ASI Hamid Warraich in W Block of Madina Colony.

The ASI, who was at the upper storey, opened fire at the robbers.

The robbers retaliated the fire and after in an exchange of fire for some 15 minutes, the ASI was critically injured, while two of the robbers died on the spot, while the third one suffered bullet injuries.

On being alerted by locals, a team of Madina Town police arrived at the spot and arrested the injured robber.

The injured ASI was shifted to the Allied Hospital Faisalabad, where he succumbed to his injuries, while the wounded criminal, who was also brought to the same hospital was being treated.

Faisalabad city police spokesperson Syed Muneeb Ahsan identified the killed dacoits as Sajjad Hussain and Tanveer Hussain, brothers hailing from Chak 648 GB, Jarranwala.

They were wanted by police police of different districts, including Lahore, in at least 40 robberies and murder cases.

INJURED: An old man was criticality wounded when his car plunged into canal here on Friday on Canal Road.

As per Rescue 1122, Abdul Qayyum (75) was driving his car on the western track of Canal Road when he suddenly lost control of the car that plunged into the canal.

On being called by passersby, a Rescue 1122 team reached the spot and shifted the injured man to the DHQ hospital.
