KARACHI: Hot weather conditions prevailing in the city over the past few days lost intensity on Monday when a dust storm, induced by a westerly wave, took over the region, Met officials said.

The maximum wind speed recorded was 26knots, 48.15-kilometre per hour, while city’s temperature dropped to 35.5 degrees Celsius from 40°C the previous day.

No rain was reported from any part of the province.

The Met department has forecast hot and humid temperature for Tuesday (today) with maximum temperature ranging between 34°C and 36°C.

Light rain likely in upper Sindh

In central and upper Sindh, weather is expected to be very hot with chances of dust storm/thunderstorm, light rain in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar-Shahdkot and Jamshoro districts over the next three days from May 3-5.

The department recorded the maximum temperature in Khairpur 45.7°C followed by Jacobabad 45°C, Larkana 44°C, Moenjodaro 43°C, Dadu and Shaheed Benazirabad 42.5°C, Padidan 42°C, Sukkur 41.5°C, Mithi 42.5°C, Hyderabad 38.7°C, Tandojam 40°C, Mipurkhas 39°C and Chorr 39.8°C.

From April 26, the whole country had been under an intense week-long heatwave that ended on May 2 when a westerly wave entered Balochistan and pushed away the high pressure system prevailing over the region.
