PESHAWAR: A six years old child was killed after he was hit by a stray bullet on Monday evening in Hayatabad area of the provincial capital, police said.

A city police statement issued here said that the child identified as Mashood was wounded by a stray bullet on Monday evening.

It said the family lived in part of Hayatabad, located close to Shakas area of the Khyber district.

The statement said the child died of the bullet wound in a hospital on Tuesday. It said the family asked the police not to lodge an FIR.

The police said they had run a comprehensive campaign to control the menace of firing in the air on this Eid as well. It said the police and people would have to join hands to rid the society of this evil of festive firing.
