QUETTA: The Governor of Baluchistan, Mir Ghaus Bakhsh Bizenjo, has ordered Urdu to be the official language in the province with effect from May 8. All offices of the Provincial Government will conduct their work in Urdu and the departments have been directed to arrange for Urdu type writers and provide facilities to stenographers to learn Urdu shorthand. The order will, however, not apply to Urdu correspondence with other provinces and the Central Government. — Staff correspondent
[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Rawalpindi,] Pakistan troops have “successfully evicted” the enemy from the encroached area in Lipa valley, 30 miles south-east of Muzaffarabad, it was officially stated today [May 6]. They have been linked up with their own position which had been encircled by the Indians, in the process they have inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. … Army Headquarters of both India and Pakistan have ordered their troops to cease fire with immediate effect.
[News agencies add from Lahore,] Mr Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, Central Minister for Education, declared … that the Universities Ordinance had been repealed. The ordinance for the Islamabad university would be promulgated by the President while the provinces would promulgate the ordinances for the universities in their respective areas.
