ISLAMABAD: The ministry for human rights on Saturday wrote official letters to 29 government departments to implement two percent disability employment quota.

According to the ministry, these directives were specially issued by the federal minister for Human Rights, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, to ensure compliance with the quota for the disabled.

The Ministry of Human Rights will take all possible steps for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities and for a dignified place in society, Riaz Hussain Pirzada told mediapersons.

Official correspondence has been sent to 29 federal ministries and divisions, he said as he sought acurrent report on quota implementation from all federal agencies.

The letter was written to comply with the quota for persons with disabilities in employment under section (1) 24 of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2020.By law, the quota is two percent of total approved jobs.

The ICT Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2020, was promulgated to promote, protect and effectively ensure the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the communities in line with the injunctions and provisions of the Constitution of Pakistan. The human rights ministry said that the concept was to advance the efforts for the recognition of their respect and dignity in the society.

Under the said law, the disability quota was reserved for employment of persons with disabilities in ministries and divisions.

The human rights ministry also said that the Establishment Division had also issued uniform instructions for implementation of two percent quota in employment by all ministries, division and departments.
