KARACHI: Fancied chestnut horse Thunder Star looks poised to add another feather in his cap by winning the Eid Milan Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting slated to take place here at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Having won the April Cup last month, thoroughbred Thunder Star is expected to make it two on the trot by returning with flying colours in the third race which is also a feature event of the day.

The race is classified under top scale order I and will go over five furlongs.

Half-a-dozen horses including five thoroughbreds are bracketed in the race out of which four have won their last outings.

Pair of fillies Spirit and Blazing Arrow are likely to pose a challenge to Thunder Star.

Here it is pertinent to mention that Thunder Star’s six stable mates have either died due to colic or destroyed after becoming lame causing huge loss to owner Ather Abbas.

Yet another half-a-dozen horses will be seen in action in the fifth and supporting race under scale order II and III to be run over four-and-a-half furlongs.

If all goes well, mare Jugni looks smart to overcome challengers Robert and Desco to stretch her winning run.

Thoroughbred chestnut horse Faris is on course for a hat-trick in the fourth race under combined scale order IV and V due to take place over four-and-a-half furlongs.

He is expected to be chased by Golden Arrow.

At the outset, mares Janan and Sweet Golden are likely to dominate the first two races of lower classifications respectively due to take place over four furlongs each.

The opening race, which has 11 contenders, includes three debutants Racing Comet, Thunder Strike and Russain Queen who can bring an element of surprise.

Altogether, 39 horses will vie for honours in five races barring last-minute withdrawal(s).

The first race starts at 3:00pm.
