ISLAMABAD: The city managers on Tuesday decided to construct second largest park of the city after F-9 park, which will be set up in Zone III, north of sector D-12 along the Margalla Road.

The environment wing and revenue directorate of CDA has started work on installing markers of land before starting construction work.

An officer of environment wing said CDA had decided to utilise 2,000 kanal out of over 4,000 kanal in Zone III, which had been lying unattended.

The officer said the federal government had directed CDA to set up a new park in the city and civic agency decided to utilize land along Margalla road for the park.

He said the new park would be set up over 155 acre and it would be the second largest park of the city after Fatima Jinnah Park, spanning over 750 acre (an entire sector).

The CDA officials told Dawn that the revenue directorate had completed demarcation of the land. “After completing demarcation, we have handed over around 2,000 kanal to Park Directorate on Tuesday,” said a revenue officer of CDA. He said that around 400 boundary pillars were also being installed around the park.

The CDA officials said that the wing concerned of the civic agency had been directed by CDA management to prepare PC-1 of the park for placing it in CDA’s Development Working Party meeting.

“After approval of PC-I, we will start tendering process for construction,” said an engineer of CDA.

He said the park would have multi-purpose sports facilities, horticulture area, kids playing area, jogging tracks, etc.

The CDA officials said there are over 250 parks in city areas of Islamabad and out of them few are large ones that include F-9 Park, Ankra Prak, Kachnar Park, Rose and Jasmine Park and Lake View Park.

The park will be constructed along the Margalla Road, which is being constructed from G.T. Road Sangjani area to sector D-12.

Major portion of the road has already been constructed and it is said that the road project would be completed within next few months.

“The road construction work is in full swing and the construction activities are under way near Shah Allah Ditta area,” said an engineer of CDA.

He said work would be completed in next few months provided CDA take early decision regarding a hurdle in Shah Allah Ditta area where a century old graveyard falls in the alignment of the road.

Sources said that once the said road is completed and park is developed, the area, which have several sectors of CDA including D-12, E-13, C-13, C-14, C-15, C-16.
