ISLAMABAD: The Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) remained closed for second day on Tuesday amid a strike by students belonging to two groups.

After Eid holidays, the university was supposed to resume academic activity on Monday but it was shut down for an indefinite period as some students set up a protest camp on the campus. The strike was called by the Pakhtun Students Council (PSC) and Saraiki Students Council.

On Monday, the university’s registrar sought Islamabad deputy commissioner’s intervention to help resume academic activity on the campus. The groups were “led by expelled students of the university who are indicted in various FIRs for having violated law and order, public safety and resort to violence”, QAU Registrar Dr Raja Qaiser Ahmed said in a letter to the deputy commissioner.

The PSC alleged that whenever students talked about their rights, the university administration started taking action against them. It also accused the university administration of racial profiling.
