LAHORE: The district administration on Thursday constituted teams to remove encroachments, traffic problems, building debris, illegal parking and bus stands and tackle other issues at 24 thoroughfares of the city.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner retired Capt Muhammad Usman at his office. CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamiyana, DC Umar Sher Chattha, CTO Lahore Muntazir Mehdi and other officers attended the meeting.

Mr Usman said steps should be taken to remove encroachments, traffic problems, building debris on roads, illegal parking and bus stands. He directed the officers to adopt a zero tolerance policy and instructed the DC to form 24 squads and establish camp committees for the roads in the first phase.

Traffic campuses and squads would comprise LTC inspectors, RTA officials, traffic police and district police, while camps and special squads would also be formed for encroachments, debris on roads, double parking, he added.

The commissioner said the unapproved commercial buildings without their own parking spaces would be sealed. He categorically said that in case of any irregularity, FIR would be lodged against the squads.

He said a comprehensive plan would be drawn up for the management of markets, parking inside the Walled City and the pushcarts.

The DC recommended to the commissioner to deploy one DSP with each team working on 24 roads.

The CCPO said announcements would be made before the launch of the grand operation and the SSP operations would be the focal person from the police side for squads and operations.

Later, the DC held a meeting at Town Hall and constituted teams to achieve the target.
