KARACHI: The entire auto sector, barring two and three-wheelers and buses, gave a robust performance in 10MFY22 dominated by a 51 per cent jump in car sales, followed by 64pc in trucks, 45pc in jeeps and 11.5pc in tractors.
According to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) data, bus sales dropped 9.4pc, while two- and three-wheeler sales fell 4.4pc.
Despite the meteoric price hike in vehicles and high-interest rates, buyers lifted 191,237 cars in 10MFY22 compared to 126,679 units in the same period last fiscal. However, car sales in April shrank to 18,625 from 22,799 in March 2022 due to Ramazan.
The below 1,000cc segment raced ahead with other higher engine power vehicles, led by an increase in Suzuki Bolan and Alto 660cc sales by 44pc and 70pc to 10,422 and 66,672 units as compared to 7,245 and 33,129 units, data shared by Pama showed.
The second-highest sales were recorded in the 1,000cc segment with a jump of 45pc and 82pc in the Suzuki Cultus and WagonR to 19,341 and 18,739 units, respectively, from 13,420 and 10,314 units in 10MFY21.
Honda Civic and City sales of 1,300cc and up rose by 39pc to 29,095 units, up from 20,869 units. Total sales of Toyota Corolla and Yaris surged to 47,812 units from 39,299 units.
The production of the Suzuki Swift, after remaining suspended from October 2021 to March due to a complete model change, came back with a bang with the rolling out of 3,346 units and sales of 2,273 units in April. Hyundai Elantra and Sonata sales were 2,526 and 2,181 units, respectively.
Toyota jeep and pickup sales increased to 14,530 units from 8,726 units in 10MFY22, while Hyundai Tucson and Honda BR-V sales increased by 3pc and 14pc to 3,359 and 3,544 units, respectively, from 3,262 and 3,116 units in the same period last fiscal year.
With a jump of 48pc, Suzuki Ravi sales stood at 12,446 units as compared to 8,434 units, while Hyundai Porter sales posted a massive growth of 55pc to 1,485 units from 961 in 10MFY21.
Massey Ferguson saw a 4pc drop in sales to 28,111 from 29,141, while Fiat saw a 49pc increase in sales to 18,340 from 12,286 units.
Bus sales were recorded at 512 units in July-April FY22 compared to 565 units, while truck sales reached 4,890 units, up from 2,982 units.
Total two- and three-wheeler sales were 1.529m units in 10MFY22 as against 1.599m units in the same period last fiscal. Sales of Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha bikes were 1.134m, 30,998 and 20,021 units, as compared to 1.076m, 19,973 and 18,375 units.
