KOHAT: Funeral prayers of a martyred constable were offered at the Kohat Police Lines here on Friday.

Zar Badshah, who was injured during a shootout with a robber in the main bazaar of Kohat on May 7, breathed his last in a Peshawar hospital earlier in the day.

He left behind a widow, four sons and a daughter to mourn his death.

After the funeral, he was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Gul Hassan Banda area of Gumbat tehsil with full official honour.

Zar Badshah was seriously injured when he challenged an armed robber who had looted a shop in Miankhel Bazaar and was trying to escape on a motorcycle.

The police had encircled the robber and asked him to surrender, but he fired at Zar Badshah, injuring him seriously. The other policemen had killed the robber.

DIG Kohat division Tahir Ayub, district police officer Mohammad Suleman, army and civil administration officials attended the funeral. The police and military officials laid floral wreaths at his grave.

SECURITY OF MINORITIES: District police officer, Hangu, Asif Bahadar has assured minority communities of full protection to their places of worship, lives and properties.

He was speaking during a meeting with a delegation of minorities led by Yaqoob Masih and Naimat Kumar. He directed the relevant officials to provide foolproof security to the worship places of minorities as they were also the equal citizens of the country.

POLIO CAMPAIGN: Chairing a meeting of the polio divisional task force on Friday, Kohat commissioner Mohammad Javed Marwat asked all the stakeholders to ensure achievement of 100 per cent target in the upcoming anti-polio campaign.

The meeting was convened to review preparations for the five-day campaign starting from May 23.

THIEF ARRESTED: Shakardarra police arrested a thief on the border with the Mianwali district of Punjab on Friday.

The robber had looted Rs100,000 cash and jewellery from a shop after breaking its locks at night a few days ago.

DSP Lachi tehsil Nazir Hussain told Dawn that Sharkardarra police had lodged an FIR on the complaint of shop owner, Shah Nawaz, against the thief, Irfan of Mianwali.

The police also recovered the booty from him.
