PESHAWAR: Advocate Rehmanullah of Awami National Party’s lawyer wing was elected as president of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) in its annual elections on Saturday as he defeated his three rival candidates.

Mr Rehmanullah of Malgari Wakeelan received 698 votes against 514 votes secured by Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik of Islamic Lawyers Forum, 493 votes by independent candidate Taif Khan and 346 by Mohammad Muazzam Butt of Peoples Lawyers Forum.

In a one on one contest between two female candidates, Ayesha Malik was elected as vice-president by getting 972 votes against 705 votes of Syeda Saima Jafri.

Mohammad Farooq Afridi was declared general secretary as he received 1,093 votes whereas his rival Ashfaq Ahmad Daudzai secured 912 votes.

Similarly, Amanullah Khan was elected as joint secretary by getting 745 votes against 588 votes of Shahzad Gul Shahzad and 541 votes of Marif Afridi. Farhan Tariq was elected as finance secretary. He got 1,418 votes whereas his rival Nazmeen Akhter secured 554 votes.

Nauman Khattak and Babar Hayat have already been elected unopposed as library secretary and press secretary, respectively. The contest was between alliances of different forums, including that of Malgari Wakeelan and Jamiat Lawyers Forum, and Islamic Lawyers Forum and Muslim League Lawyers Forum.
