RAWALPINDI: With street crime on the rise in various parts of the city, one person was shot and injured while others were deprived of motorcycles, cash, gold jewellery and other valuables in 50 incidents reported to the police on Saturday.

The police have registered separate cases and launched investigation. Shafiqur Rehman, a resident of Pindora, was shot and injured during a robbery in Banni area.

Mr Rehman complained to the police that he was on his way to Sirajia Park when he was intercepted by two unidentified motorcycle riders. He said he was held at gunpoint and robbed of cash.

He was shot and injured by the suspects when he tried to alert people in the area by shouting.

Mohammad Adil was robbed of Rs12,000 by four unidentified robbers at Fawara Chowk, Ikhtiar Ali lost two mobile phones and cash to two robbers in Pirwadhai area while Niaz Ahmad was deprived of a mobile phone and cash at gunpoint in New Town area.

Fiaz Hussain complained to Sadiqabad police that thieves stole gold jewellery worth Rs500,000 and Rs1,600 from his house, Mohammad Ijaz and Hasnain Ayub were robbed of Rs45,500 and two mobile phones worth Rs77,000 by two unidentified robbers in the Civil Lines area.

Others whose motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint included Aziz Ahmad, Hashir Ahmad, Khuram Riaz, Ijaz Bhatti, Mohammad Akmal, Abdul Samad, Mohammad Mushtaq, Mohammad Imran, Abdul Rehman, Usman Khalid, Sheikh Qasim, Hameedullah, Muslim Khan,Bilal Arif, Arsalan Ishfaq.

According to police statistics, motorcycle theft has been on the rise as 1,536 motorcycles were stolen while 100 were snatched at gunpoint this year compared to 1,308 stolen and 79 snatched during 2021.
