HARIPUR: Deputy commissioner, Haripur, Mughees Sanaullah has asked members of the district vigilance committee (DVC) to visit industrial and commercial units, brick kilns and areas where children are employed as labourers and take prompt action against the violators.

He was chairing a meeting of Haripur DVC on Saturday, which reviewed the last two months’ progress of the committee and future line of action to check the offences of bonded and child labour.

The DVC called for in-depth study of the probability of underage workers in different industries and bonded labour cases at brick kilns and fishermen’s families brought to Haripur from other provinces.

The deputy commissioner, who heads the DVC as chairman, directed its members to follow the guidelinesof the provincial government and take steps for checking child and bonded labour in the district.

DC asks officials to conduct raids on industrial units, brick kilns

He asked the members to ensure both individual and joint monitoring and conduct visits to the industrial units, workshops, brick kilns and other commercial and industrial entities where there was information of violation of child protection and welfare act.

Additional DC Ms Shaista, assistant commissioner headquarters Ms Azka Fatima, DSP investigation Javed Khan and assistant director labour department Tariq Qureshi were among the members who shared their views on this occasion.

DENGUE PREVENTION: The local government and rural development department, Haripur, on Saturday organised a walk in Ghazi to create awareness about dengue virus.

The chairmen and councillors of different village councils and officials of local government department took part in the walk, which was led by assistant director local government Hasnain Kazmi, assistant commissioner Fiza Mohsin and tehsil chairman Qasim Shah.

The participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with precautionary measures against the viral disease.

The speakers on this occasion urged the people to take precautionary measures for keeping themselves protected against the mosquito bite.

KILLED: A man was shot dead while he was trying to mediate between two groups to resolve their dispute over property in Bariyan village of Ghazi tehsil, police said here on Saturday.

Nara Amazai police quoted eyewitnesses as saying that there was a property dispute between the families of Mohammad Ismail and Mohammad Mushtaq of Bariyan village.

On the request of both the groups, some area elders were discussing ways of ending the dispute when Mushtaq allegedly opened fire on Ismail, but Abdul Akbar, a resident of Chukuli village, caught between them and was killed on the spot.

Ismail also sustained bullet wounds during the incident, police said.
