BAJAUR: Police here have arrested around 30 people of Kamangra locality for their alleged involvement in storming Nawagai police station of Bajaur tribal district and beating to death a murder suspect, said district police officer Abdul Samad Khan here on Saturday.

Talking to mediapersons, he said that the storming incident had occurred late on Thursday evening.

He said that the suspects in the storming case were arrested from their area during police raids.

The DPO said that all the suspects were detained after registering cases against them at the Nawagai police station under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He said that the murder suspect was detained at the police station for interrogation.

Mr Khan said that efforts were under way to arrest the remaining suspects in the police station storming case and killing of the murder suspect as soon as possible.

He said that the local elders were also supporting the police in this regard.

He said that all the suspects had been shifted to Nawagai police station, while more police personnel had been posted there to avoid any untoward incident in future.

According to officials, the police station was stormed on Thursday evening hours after the police brought one Abdur Rasheed there for his alleged involvement in the murder of Abdul Ghafoor, a resident of Kamangra area of Nawagai tehsil.

They said that a group of angry residents of Kamangra, including the victim’s relatives, gathered outside the lockup and demanded the officials to hand over the suspect to them.

They said that on refusal the people attacked the police station and took away the suspect from the police station and beat him with sticks to death. The deceased belonged to Sheikh Meno area of Khar tehsil.
