KOHAT: Hundreds of people from five villages located along the Rawalpindi Road here on Sunday blocked the supply of gas and crude oil from Sayab fields in protest against the SNGPL for backing out of an agreement to supply gas to their localities.

Following the demonstration, the protest leaders, including local Pakistan Peoples Party leader Babar Azeem and others, addressed a press conference in Dhok Hussain, vowing to continue protest unless work on laying of a gas pipeline was not started immediately.

Mr Azeem said under the agreement inked three years ago, Rs50 million had been promised for supply

of gas to Dhok Hussain, Kamalkhel, Shadikhel, Mandakhel, Daudkhel and Marchungi villages, solarisation of police stations of Bilitang, Shadikhel, construction of a dispensary and provision of jobs to locals.

The PPP leader and others asked the provincial chief secretary to ensure provision of gas facility to the villages from the local fields.

The protesters criticised regional coordinator of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited Mushfiq Paracha for creating hurdles in the way of gas supply to various villages of Kohat.

ULEMA MEET MAYORS: Muttahida Ulema Council, Kohat division, has resolved to work for peace and development of the region.

A delegation of the council led by Maulana Maqsood Gul Ustad met mayors of Lower and Upper Orakzai tehsil councils Maulana Tariq Mauvia and Mufti Tahir on Sunday.

A joint declaration issued after the meetings quoted Maulana Maqsood as saying that help of humanity

and serving the religion should be their real mission. He asked the mayors to work for welfare of the tribesmen.

ADVISORY FOR POLICEMEN: The policemen have been advised not to wear uniform while coming to offices or going to their homes due to increasing target killing incidents.

A notification issued by district police officer Mohammad Suleman the other day advised them to also change their travelling routes regularly and restrict their movements.

He also directed them to avoid using mobile phones during duty hours and to wear helmets and bulletproof jackets while on duty.

APPOINTED: Dr Gule Rana has been appointed to the newly-created post of chief medical officer at the KDA Teaching Hospital after her promotion to grade-20, according to a notification issued the other day.
