PESHAWAR: The district administration is going to launch a campaign on Wednesday (today) to pick over 2,000 drug addicts in Peshawar for their rehabilitation.

The three-month-long Drug-Free Peshawar campaign would involve government departments, law enforcement agencies and non-government organisations, according to a statement issued here on Tuesday.

In this connection, Peshawar commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud has also set up a control room to monitor the activity.

The control room will be staffed by the officials of district administration, social welfare department, Anti Narcotics Force, excise department, Special Branch, Dost Welfare Foundation, Care Welfare, Al-Khidmat Foundation and other entities.

Drug addicts picked from different parts of the city will be taken to the centres of social welfare department and other organisations for treatment and bringing them back to life.

The statement quoted Mr Mehsud as saying that the general public could call the control room on 1052 to share information about drug addicts. He said the control room would also be used to coordinate all drug eradication-related efforts.

Mr Mehsud directed all the relevant agencies to take strict action against drug paddlers. He said drug addicts from other districts would be shifted to their home districts after treatment.
