KARACHI: A worker of the Pakistan Peoples Party was shot dead in what police described as a targeted attack in the Lyari area on Friday evening.

They said that Danish Qureshi, 38, was sitting near Khadda Market in the Baghdadi area when armed motorcyclist targeted him and rode away.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for a post-mortem examination.

City-SSP Shabbir Ahmed Sethar said that it appeared to be an incident of ‘targeted killing’.

He said that the victim was a political worker, who was associated with the construction business.

The police were probing the incident from different angles, he added.

Waqar Mehdi, the general secretary of the Sindh chapter of the PPP, confirmed that the victim was a senior activist, who was a former office-bearer of the party’s youth wing.

Man held for killing wife for ‘honour’

A young woman was shot dead allegedly by her husband in the name of so-called honour on Friday, police said.

They said Bushra, 23, was killed by her husband Tariq Rahim inside their home in the Garden Police Headquarters.

City-SSP Shabbir Ahmed Sethar said that the suspect was taken into custody. He said that the murder appeared to be an outcome of “honour-killing”.

The Nabi Bux police said that the victim got married with Rahim around four years ago. The couple lived in the Manghopir area and was recently shifted to the police quarters in Garden, as victim’s father-in-law, who was a former police officer, lived there.

The body was shifted to the CHK for completing medico-legal formalities.
