BAJAUR: Confirming emergence of lumpy skin disease (LSD) among animals in various areas of Bajaur tribal district, the local livestock and dairy development department said on Saturday that they had started efforts to treat the affected animals and prevent spread of the disease in the region.

According to a statement issued from the office of assistant director livestock department here, the officials had taken a serious notice of the prevalence of LSD in domestic animals in some areas of the district and sent mobile veterinary teams to the affected localities in Mamond tehsil.

It said that the mobile teams had confirmed that the disease had only been reported in Barkholozo and its nearby areas of Mamond tehsil. It said the teams found that only eight cattle were affected by the disease.

Livestock official says teams sent to affected areas to treat animals

District director livestock Dr Ziauddin had ordered veterinary doctors and support staff to visit the said areas to check the status of epidemic and provide treatment to the infected cattle, the statement said, adding that officials also collected blood samples from the total eight affected animals in which four were said to be in critical condition.

Besides administering LSD vaccines to several animals, the officials also conducted awareness sessions in the area so that the local farmers could save their livestock from LSD and other diseases. The farmers were told to keep the affected animals separate from the healthy ones.

PROTEST HELD: The residents of Dawaogai area in Lowi Mamond tehsil here on Saturday held a protest demonstration against the suspension of work on a road scheme and arrest of their elders under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law.

The demonstration was held on Laghari- Inayat Kallay road at Umary Chowk where the protesters blocked the artery for about two hours.

The protesters alleged that the authorities had arrested a number of area elders under the MPO after they held a press conference over the longstanding suspension of construction work on the road scheme at Bajaur Press Club some days ago.
