GORAKH ‘KILLS’: The Gorakh Hill Station, located 49km west of the city of Wahi Pandhi in Dadu district, is one of the most refreshing tourist spots anywhere in Sindh. However, it remains without the most basic of facilities. Accidents are a routine on this tricky track because of the poor condition of the roads. Four tourists lost their lives in an accident last September and more than five have died this year. To handle any sort of emergency, no ambulance or fire brigade is available anywhere close to the site.

The hill station certainly deserves better.

DEMOCRATIC GROUND: The recent decision of the Supreme Court may well help promote democratic values. In the words of Howard Zinn, “dissent is the highest form of patriotism”. That being so, what if somebody wants to disagree with the party on moral grounds and is willing to take punishment, as mentioned in Article 63(A)?

ABSURDITY: The majority of us are in the bad habit of misusing gadgets, which otherwise could have been beneficial, like the smartphones and the various apps one can access through them. Nowadays, it has become a ‘trend’ to make unethical videos at sacred places without realising the sanctity of such places. Every day we come across absurd videos made in or around places of worship. What kind of a craze is this? Have we completely lost our mind?

TARGETING AWARENESS: Blasphemy law seems to be a widely misunderstood law, and many have paid the price with their lives as lynching mobs took the matter into their own hands and decided the matter there and then on the spot. The overall picture in this regard is rather grim. To tackle such sensitive matters, school syllabus should contain at least one topic to spread awareness on such sensitive issues. This is really important.
