RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police have launched a 24-hour licence facility at the Traffic Police Headquarters for the convenience of citizens, students, businessmen and other people.

On the other hand, police have also launched a campaign against the practice of passenger overload in public transport, especially those who allow passengers to ride on rooftops of public service vehicles.

According to a traffic police spokesperson, the licence facility has been launched for citizens for the first time and in the first phase, learners’ permits, renewal of licences and international licence facilities are being provided in the evening and night.

On the occasion, Chief Traffic Officer Naveed Irshad said all resources were being utilised for provision of this facility and other traffic-related services, adding that such initiatives lead to the success of institutions.

On the other hand, a spokesman for the traffic police said Chief Traffic Officer Naveed Irshad issued orders to all circle and sector in-charges of Rawalpindi district to take strict and indiscriminate action against operators of public transport, who were responsible for letting passengers sit on the roofs of vehicles. Mr Irshad said that the decision to take action against this practice has been taken after considering the safety of citizens. He appealed to citizens to refrain from travelling on the roofs of vehicles as this could lead to major accidents.
